Firm Foundation Tutoring is a Christ-centered academic assistance program. We team a diverse group of volunteer tutors with mostly immigrant and refugee children in after-school tutoring and summer enrichment programs.
The primary goal of the Firm Foundation Tutoring Program is to build relationships with the children and show them the love of Christ. The name “Firm Foundation” emphasizes the good academic foundation that children need to be able to function well in our culture. The name also emphasizes the more important foundation we have in Jesus Christ who alone is the only sure foundation on which to build a life that is truly pleasing to God.
After-School Tutoring
During our after-school program, K-12th grade students work one-on-one with volunteer tutors, receiving help with their homework and other enrichment activities and having a time of devotions.
Tutoring in the spring and fall is held Monday and Wednesday from 5.30 to 7pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 4 to 5.30pm at New City South.
Fall Semester runs late August/early September though early December.
Spring Semester runs Mid-January through Mid-May.
Tutors commit to coming the same day/week one semester at a time and are matched with the same student each time.
Summer Tutoring
Elementary-aged children participate in a full-day program that combines academics with enrichment activities. Our thematic enrichment program emphasizes hands-on learning and models biblical interaction with the children. Summer Tutoring offers a variety of volunteer opportunities such as tutoring, teaching an afternoon enrichment class, and supervising lunch and recess.
