Jesus Christ is our good shepherd and the head of his body, the church. Under Christ, the church is led by elders who are called to shepherd the flock. Elders guide and govern the church family by watching over the church as a whole (our mission, vision, core values, doctrine, teaching and preaching, ministries and ministry leaders) and also by watching over and shepherding individual members. Elders are also called to serve as examples for those both within the church and outside the church. The role and qualifications for elders are seen most clearly in scripture in 1 Timothy 3:1-13 and 1 Peter 5:1-5
Women’s Leadership Council
- Patti Middeke
- Eileen O’Gorman
The New City South Elders established a Women’s Leadership Council with a vision toward helping the church in benefit from the deliberate ministry of some of our mature sisters and mothers in the faith who are recognized and called to serve as counselors, advisors, examples, and mentors in the congregation. These women lead by example in matters of character and godliness, through repentance and faith. In collaboration with elders, deacons, and community group leaders, they provide care and counseling for members of the church. They meet and consult with the session/elders. They pray with and for members on Sunday mornings, alongside the elders on call. They pray together as a team for the church. Finally, they take part in more significant church planning matters such as capital campaigns, annual planning, pastoral search committees, etc.
Deacons and Deacon Team Members

God has called his people to love one another by meeting basic human needs. What’s more he has specially gifted some members to lead the church in fulfilling this biblical mandate. The Deacons lead the congregation in demonstrating acts of mercy, justice and compassion to the family of believers, strangers and prisoners, the fatherless, widows, immigrants and refugees, enemies, and our neighbors in need.
Deacons are called by God to act with compassion toward those in need of physical and spiritual help. This help is to be given first to members at New City Fellowship South City and also to others as we have available resources (Gal. 6:10). We exercise our gift of mercy through direct involvement with individuals, ministry team leaders and community groups. We believe God has called us into a relationship with Himself and with one another as we walk together in the gospel of the kingdom. Through these relationships we provide both financial education and assistance.
